Impressions: Hanasaku Iroha Ep. 9

Spoilers ahead, you probably shouldn’t be reading this if you haven’t watched this episode.

On “The Longest Day at Kissuiso” Ohana is still acting like a mad woman in her desperate search for Tohru. Meanwhile—Kō is watching his plans crumble before his eyes. He wanted to see Ohana, but he only ends up encouraging her to find Tohru. Oh and the inn is busy, and the mystery guest are still there, getting no special treatment thanks to Ohana—all guest are equal.

I really feel bad for Kō, he took the time to come and pay his dear friend a visit—and he didn’t even get to see her. I wasn’t expecting that, I honestly thought that he would at least run into her, while she and Tohru were in a compromising situation. But I guess that would have been too cliché, so in the end it’s great they avoided this situation.

Ohana needs to start thinking before she runs off, she literally ran off with no plan. What if Tohru wasn’t there? She’s the luckiest girl in the world because all her half-baked ideas always work in the end. Still, by sending her to go get Tohru again, this sends him the wrong message. He already likes her; this is only making those feelings grow stronger. I don’t predict a good ending for this love rectangle (that’s not a typo, think about it).

I knew they had the wrong people as the mystery guests, thank goodness Ohana decided to treat every customer the same, if she hadn’t honored her grandma’s wishes, they would have a terrible rating—thus business would go down even further, that’s the last thing they need.

For some reason they focused on Ko’s manager, even highlighting her in the end. I’m not sure if she’ll play a bigger part in the coming episodes, or if we’re supposed to know who she is. If so, I need to go back and re-watch the first episode.

It looks like Ohana is ill on the next episode, but knowing her she’ll try to work anyway, she refuses to let anyone down. This is her strength, and biggest weakness, sometimes you have to put your health first. Wait a minute, Ohana isn’t that different from her grandma once you sit down and think about it…

Rating: 4/5
