With Sony announcing that PS2 games will now be released on the PSN in download form, without trophies or HD graphics, I thought I’d write up a list of the PS2 games that simply must be put onto the PSN!
*Games that are already in HD re-releases aren’t included, as well as Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank since both those franchises are likely to get the HD treatment*
Psychonauts – $9.99
Already available on Steam for $9.99, the cult classic deserves to be played by as many people as possible.
Okami – $14.99
Even though it was re-released for the Wii and a sequel came out for the DS, the original is still a great game.
SSX 3 – $9.99
Rumor has it that EA is working on doing an HD version of SSX 3 but if they don’t, it is one of the best snowboarding games ever made.
Timesplitters: Future Perfect – $14.99
Definitely one of my favorite PS2 games of all time. Releasing Future Perfect on PSN means they could drum up some hype for the rumored sequel.
Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2 – $9.99 each
Not much has been heard of Joe since the DS game so we can assume the franchise is dead but maybe a PSN release could change all that?
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King – $9.99
The first of many RPG’s on the list. Dragon Quest won’t appeal to the North American crowd but it will do big sales in Japan.
Burnout Revenge – $9.99
Since it never released for PS3, this would be a great chance for people to play a true arcade Burnout game.
Dark Cloud 2 – $14.99
One of the biggest, craziest, best RPG’s ever made. A lot of you missed it on the PS2 so this would be a great opportunity to see what you missed.
Red Faction 1 and 2 – $9.99 each
Could be a great way for people to see where the franchise came from and how influential it was on future games.
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 – $9.99/$14.99
This could up being an HD release in the near future but if they choose not to, I will gladly pay $14.99 for the second one and $9.99 for the first.
Bully – $9.99
Much like Burnout Revenge, Bully was never released on PS3. Basically a tame version of Grand Theft Auto and just as good.
Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil – $4.99
Not many people know who Klonoa is so a low price is a given but those who get it will know why he had a following back in the day.
Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy – $9.99
For those that haven’t played Psi-Ops, picture The Force Unleashed but better. If they release it on PSN, they could always include an extra level where they clear up the ending that left us on a cliffhanger but never resolved it!
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King – $9.99
A great movie based game and one of the best co-op experiences out there.
James Bond: Everything or Nothing – $9.99
This and Goldeneye are the only two Bond games ever made in my opinion. Great single player mixed with great co-op and an extremely fun motorcycle level mean it’s a must buy.
Indigo Prophecy – $9.99
Wanna see what came before Heavy Rain? Indigo Prophecy is very crazy and deranged but it was a fresh experience back when it launched.
Half-Life – $9.99
Come on Valve… You know you wanna!
Maximo: Army of Zin – $9.99
Ghosts to Glory is going to be a launch game for the PS2 on PSN plan so Army of Zin is sure to follow if enough people buy GtG.
Megaman Anniversary Collection – $9.99
One of the best deals in gaming. Only thing holding it back would be the individual releases of it that are so profitable.
Rogue Galaxy – $14.99
Yet another RPG on the list. Rogue Galaxy is definitely up there with Dragon Quest and Dark Cloud so if they do decide to release it, expect to spend about 40-60 hours on it.
Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2/ Champions of Norrath – $9.99
I couldn’t choose just one so I lumped them together since they are essentially the same experience. A real copy of Baldur’s Gate runs up to $60 so Champions of Norrath is probably more likely.
X-Men Legends 1 or 2 – $9.99 each
A great way for Activision to help people forget X-Men Destiny.
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 1 or 2 – $14.99
I said there was going to be a lot of RPG’s on the list and if you aren’t familiar with the MegaTen series, just know that it is crazy!
Max Payne 1 or 2 – $4.99
Great games but they should stay cheap so Max Payne 3 gets a lot of sales.
Red Dead Revolver – $9.99
Wanna see the prequel to Red Dead Redemption that basically has nothing to do with RDR? That’s Red Dead Revolver!
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter – $9.99
An RPG where you’re encouraged to die? Yes please!
True Crime: Streets of LA – $4.99
Basically a poor man’s GTA, that’s why it needs to be cheap.
Jak X: Combat Racing – $9.99
Since I believe that Jak X won’t be included in the Jak and Daxter Collection, I think it would be good to see it on the PSN because it really is a good game!
Destroy all Humans! 1 or 2 – $9.99 each
A franchise that was completely ruined on the next-gen consoles could have a rebirth of sorts on the PSN.
Killzone – $9.99
Sony could decide to not include Killzone because they view it as the black sheep of the family but it could make them some money and that will probably outweigh anything.
Kya: Dark Lineage – $4.99
A very, very underappreciated adventure game in the vein of Jak and Daxter.
Killer 7 – $7.99
A sick, twisted, poorly controlled game that everyone should play at least once.
Mister Mosquito – $4.99
You play as a mosquito!
The Mark of Kri – $4.99
While not the best game on the PS2, The Mark of Kri has a very interesting combat system and very stylish visuals.
24: The Game – $.99
This game is terrible and should never have been made but it’s the only way you can play as Jack Bauer!
Futurama – $19.99
Seriously, I would play twenty dollars for this. While not a technically impressive game, it is just so stupid fun and impossible to find anywhere that a PSN release would be awesome!
Project: Snowblind – $9.99
A very under rated underappreciated FPS that came out just after the PS2’s glory days.
Star Wars Battlefron 1 and 2 – $9.99
Why there haven’t been any next gen sequels I will never know but the PS2 classics still hold up today.
Black – $9.99
While it may have its issues, Black is such a beautiful looking game that it needs to be on the PSN!
The Bouncer – $9.99
Last but not least, The Bouncer. A brawler made by Square Enix that is so emo it’ll make your arms bleed. Still, it’s fun if you have someone to play with.
