Medaka Box Episode 6 Micro-Review

Minor Spoilers Ahead

I’ve been really hard on Medaka Box; it’s been struggling to find its purpose. Luckily “I Don’t Expect You To Understand” hits all the right notes. This is the best episode yet. If it continues going in this direction Medaka Box may morph into a semi-respectable anime by the end of the season.

So what makes this episode better than the rest? Well, for starters the action was actually interesting this time around. The events had some randomness to them, as soon as you thought they were going to go one way — the unexpected happens.

Medaka was kind of likeable for once. She didn’t crush the swim team’s dream. Her only issue with them was their reckless behavior, and I’m glad they explained their money motives. Also we can’t forget about that kiss now can we?

Overall I really enjoyed this episode. Hopefully the series doesn’t take a dive back into mediocre land next week. (Rating: 8/10)
