Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes Review (PS Vita)

Let me start off by saying that the disappointing part of this game, is that its not a port from the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions. If you’re looking for the open world experience and freedom of the console versions, this may not be for you. If you’re looking for another Lego game that you can take on the go, then we may be in business.

The Story- Lex Luthor is running for president and he’ll stop at nothing to win; even if that includes drugging Gotham city residents into voting for him. Once again the dynamic duo Batman and Robin set out on a quest for justice. Later, you are joined by a few familiar Justice league characters. The great addition to this story is…LEGO VOICE ACTING! That’s right folks after the many releases in this franchise its time for some narrative and its a welcome addition.

PRAISE:

  • Cool Story Bro- This game has decent story (partially due to the voice acting) and even though its cheesy as all get out, it will make you chuckle at parts. If the story and dialogue wasn’t present this game wouldn’t have been very good.
  • Tetris, Lumines, and Legos?- There are many puzzles in this game and though they are not hard to solve, it is a pleasure to use both of your characters abilities to get through each level.
  • Did I miss something?- There are tons of things to collect and unlock in this game. Music, passive abilities, and a huge roster of DC heroes and villains all await you after your initial play through. This can be fun if you’re a completionist. The platinum trophy is worth the grind if you’re into that kind of thing.

AWKWARD SILENCE:

  • Oh wow you can do that too- Aside from a few exceptions every character in the game feels the same. It would have been better if there had been more diversity.
  • ~Sighs~ This game could have been amazing when looking at its console counter part. That being said the overall experience is a let down.

WELL-DESERVED CRITICISMS:

  • Focus!- The cut scenes in this game will make you want to gouge your eyes out with blunt rubber chopsticks. The reason for this being; the game is a port from the 3DS. WHAT!?!?!? Yes its true.
  • Get out of my way- Your partner will become more of a nuisance than a blessing. You will find that the auto targeting system likes to pin you against your friend, rather than the enemy in many situations.
  • That’s it?- The campaign is very short. Unless you really need to collect everything to get a platinum trophy, then going through it again in free play mode is practically useless.

CONCLUSION:

This game is ok. Its nothing special by any stretch of the imagination in terms of gameplay. The addition of voices helped its cause but didn’t save the title. I would recomment picking this up on a console or the PC. If you’re a trophy hunter buy it used, platinum it, and then return it.

[box_light]We believe that the score is the least important part of a review. It’s tough trying to assign a numerical value to an experience. Furthermore, is there really a difference between a 7.5 and an 8? Gamers place too much importance on arbitrary numbers. This is why our scores are hidden by default. Only look at them if you absolutely need a number between 1-10 to see if a game is worth your time. You can read our review guidelines here.[/box_light]

Sucks this didn’t turn out as good as the console version. I don’t get it — they could have easily ported the console version to the PS Vita.
