If you’re unfamiliar with this series go back and read my season one review. This season two review is abridged because it assumes the reader isn’t new to the series.
I reviewed the Blu-ray for the first season of The World God Only Knows back in February. Sentai Filmworks did an excellent job dubbing the anime and I gave it a perfect score. Now it’s August and it’s time to review The World God Only Knows II. And you’re probably wondering — does the second season live up to the first?
The answer is yes, hell yes. I’m going to come right out and say it – this tops the original in every way imaginable. And that’s no easy feat since the first season was already flirting with perfection.
The English voice cast from the first season is back and better than ever. Keima and Elsie’s voices sounded off at first (back in February), but now they sound just as good as the Japanese ones. Elsewhere Keima’s mother still manages to steal every scene she takes part in, and the new girls’ voices are perfect. Speaking of the new girls…
They’re the soul of the show, and they’re much harder to conquer than the old ones. Haqua and Chihiro’s arcs were my favorites, but all of them remained entertaining. The situations were escalated — this is one anime that refuses to rest on its laurels.
My only issue with this Blu-ray is the lack of extras. After seeing all the extras included with Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, I was a little disappointed with this Blu-ray’s lack of random goodies.
Even without a ton of extras this is a must buy. If you loved the first season go out and buy this right now. The World God Only Knows I & II deserves to be in everyone’s collection. It’s smart, self-aware, geeky, and downright hilarious. (Rating: 10/10)
