Sword Art Online Episode 9 Micro-Review

Minor Spoilers Ahead

This week’s episode of Sword Art Online picks up right where things left off, Asuna and Kirito have just come face to face with a gnarly looking boss. But this may be the least of their problems.

This episode brought the action, seeing Kirito duel wield two swords was a real treat. The direction kept me deeply invested in the combat. Meanwhile Kirito and Asuna’s relationship continues to advance.

I didn’t like the scene with the soldier dying, though. Death feels meaningless because we barely know any of these characters (and I wouldn’t be shocked if they weren’t really dying in the real world). It’s like on Another, I rarely cared when someone died because they barely had any screen time. I digress, this was a good episode, and next week’s looks even better. (Rating: 8/10)
