Minor Spoilers Ahead
The set-up for this episode is nothing spectacular. Rikka finds a cat and she can’t keep it because her big sister is allergic to them. Now this doesn’t sound too exciting, but thanks to the animation, music, cinematography, and Rikka’s soup ladle-toting big sister this episode is way more enjoyable then it should be.
Yuuta is on the fast track to harem town, but I’m okay with that as long as things don’t become too cheesy. Hopefully Rikka’s crazy antics remain the anime’s primary focus. Her battle with her big sister was beyond epic – Kyoto Animation went nuts and it looked like a scene out of Black Rock Shooter. Too bad it was another one of Rikka’s delusions – the real fight was just hilarious.
But the real star of this episode was Yuuta’s ‘Dark Flame Master’ persona. I lost it when Rikka’s big sister played the tape from two years ago. The voice acting alone is enough to put me on the floor; he makes Rikka sound somewhat normal (the world will end in 2012, classic). So far this is easily my favorite anime of the fall season.
