Beyond the Boundary Episode 3 & 4 Micro-Review

[HorribleSubs] Kyoukai no Kanata - 04 [1080p]_Oct 27, 2013 11.08.06 AM

The first two episodes of Beyond the Boundary were all over the place. This left a sour taste in my mouth. It recklessly danced between genres. Some shows can make a smooth transition between comedy, action, and drama, but this clearly wasn’t one of them. So I was expecting more of the same going into episode 3, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Everything felt forced on the earlier episodes, but now things are flowing naturally. The gags are toned down, and the drama finally has some room to breathe. The first two episodes were like a basketball team made up of superstars that didn’t know how to work together. So you’re left with a team of great players, but everyone is fighting for the spotlight and the team suffers.

Now everyone is working together for the good of the team. The comedy, action, and drama are no longer competing with one another. Both episodes were great, but episode 4 wins the grand prize thanks to its surprising twist.

Now my only concern is – will this team continue to work together? Or will each player go back to their ball hogging ways? (Rating: 8/10)

I stopped watching it a month ago. Not because it sucks — I just don’t have time.
